  • 💳 🧹 Address Any Credit Card Debt

Review any credit card debt you have on your credit report. Make a note of the interest rate you are paying. Call the bank and ask if you can lower your APR. Focus on paying down your debts with the highest interest rates first.

  • 💳 🧹 Consider a Balance Transfer

If you have a high interest rate, consider a balance transfer to save money while you pay off debt. On the Citi® Double Cash Card, for instance, you can get 0% for 18 months on any balance transfer. You will pay a 3% fee to transfer. https://link.joinarrange.com/creditcardspringcleaning_balancetransfer

  • 💳 🧹 Ask for Retention Offers

If you might want to keep a card (or even if you know you do) you can ask for a retention offer. Call the number on the back of your card and just ask if they are offering retention offers. They may offer you an incentive to keep the card. See this post for details. https://link.joinarrange.com/creditcardspringcleaning_retentionoffers

  • 💳 🧹 Downgrade Cards

If you aren't getting benefits that make it worth keeping the card, a lot of banks give you the option to downgrade your card to one that has no annual fee. This helps build your length of credit history which in turn helps your score.

  • 💳 🧹 Cancel Cards

Call the bank to cancel. If your card earns general bank points use your points before cancelling, otherwise you'll lose them. If your card earns points directly with an airline or hotel, those points have already been transferred to that hotel or airline and cancelling the card won't affect them.
